I Didn’t Start as a
Short-Term Rental Manager

I started with one home and a simple goal:
to prepare it the way I’d want to experience it as a guest.

I’m Sara Vander Horn. In 2019 I moved out of New York City, the place I called home for eleven years. I had transitioned to a fully remote line producing job and realized I could live anywhere. I chose Charlotte, North Carolina, where my best friend lived. As fate would have it, she had a townhouse up for sale, and I was a girl in need of a place to live.

For the first time, I had complete control over every design decision. By day, I worked remotely for an advertising production company. Nights and weekends, I shaped the house into the home I’d always wanted: calm, comfortable, and intentional.

At the end of 2020, life pulled me back to New York City. I still wanted a reason to return to Charlotte, so instead of finding a long-term tenant, I listed the home on Airbnb. It didn’t take long to realize I cared just as much about the home as I did about the people staying in it. Preparing the space. Anticipating needs. Discovering how small details could shape an entire stay.

Years in film production taught me that the best experiences aren’t improvised, they’re built through preparation, systems, and hundreds of small decisions behind the scenes. Hospitality gave those same skills a more personal purpose. Instead of producing campaigns, I was creating spaces where people could arrive, unwind, and feel genuinely cared for.

That one home became Mosaic Getaways, a company built on the belief that the moments guests remember most are created long before they arrive.

What Guides
Our Work

Care is the business model.
Experience is the outcome.

We don’t see homes as inventory or stays as transactions. We care for homes people

are excited to arrive to, and create stays that feel effortless from beginning to end.

The Standard
We Operate By

1. Expectations That Hold Up in Real Life

Too many stays look great online and disappoint in person. Mosaic homes are prepared and cared for so what you see, and what you expect, matches what you experience.

2. You’re Not the Backstop

Most short-term rental managers escalate problems to protect their process. Mosaic absorbs responsibility to protect your energy. When something goes wrong, we solve it before it becomes your problem.

3. Judgment Over Noise

Not every comment deserves escalation and not every imperfection needs a report. We separate what’s important from what’s simply part of operating a home. Owners hear about decisions, not every inconvenience.

4. Care That Extends Beyond the Stay

Hospitality works best when it isn’t rushed or transactional. We’d rather grow slowly than sacrifice the care people remember.

Let’s Build Something
Worth Caring For

Mosaic continues to grow slowly and intentionally, one home and one relationship at a time. Whether you’re booking a getaway
or trusting us with your home, our goal is the same: to make every experience feel effortless, personal, and genuinely cared for.
